The plant is distributed wild throughout India and mainly cultivated in Kerala and West Bengal. It has been in traditional use as an aromatic medicinal cosmetic and is also a promising drug for therapeutic purpose.It is used in indigenous medicine for external applications on skin diseases, sprain, bruise, in snake poison and also to enhance complexion. For the last few decades, research works have been done to establish the pharmacological potential of wild Turmeric and its extracts.
